Canada, occupying 41 % of the continent is the world's second largest country after Russia. The country
has 9,970,610 square km (3,849,650 square miles), and is comprised of 92.4% of land, the rest being fresh water. Canada is
also known for having the longest coastline in the world at about 244,000 km (151,600 miles). There
are 10 provinces and 3 territories. Some Canadian symbols include the maple leaf and the beaver. Canada use to
belong to Great Britain. The name Canada dates back to the year 1535. It was used by two Amerindians who were
travelling with Jacqes Cartier to describe Stadacona - which is now known as Quebec City.
The word “Canada” comes from the aboriginal word “Kanata” which means village. Two of
the main languages in Canada are English and French.
